Frequently Asked Questions

How do I take a scan?
Hold your iPhone about 12 inches from your face. The app will guide you through different angles — front, slight right, right, slight left, left, up, and down. Hold each pose for about half a second until the angle is captured automatically. The entire scan takes under 30 seconds.
Which iPhones are supported?
Skin AI requires an iPhone with a TrueDepth camera, which includes iPhone X and all later models. The TrueDepth camera is used for ARKit face tracking to create accurate 3D face meshes.
Is my face data private?
Yes. All scanning, processing, and storage happens entirely on your iPhone. Your 3D face scans are never uploaded to external servers. The app collects only your name and profile preferences (skin type, concerns, goals) for personalization.
How does scan comparison work?
Go to the Compare tab and select any two scans. The app loads both 3D meshes into an interactive viewer where you can toggle between Scan A and Scan B while rotating and zooming to inspect changes from any angle.
Can I export my scan data?
Yes. From the 3D viewer, tap the share icon to export a ZIP file containing your scan as an OBJ mesh file with MTL material, texture images, and metadata JSON. This is a standard 3D format compatible with Blender, MeshLab, and other 3D software.
What is streak tracking?
The app tracks consecutive days where you've logged at least one scan or skincare product. Your current streak is shown on the home screen. Consistent tracking helps you see patterns in your skin health over time.
How do I log skincare products?
Go to the Lotions tab and tap + to add a product. You can take a photo or choose from your library and give it a name. Then from the home screen, tap the + button and choose 'Log Lotion' to record when you apply a product.
The camera view is black or scanning isn't working
Make sure you've granted camera permissions in Settings > Skin AI. The app requires the front-facing TrueDepth camera, so ensure nothing is blocking it. Try restarting the app if the AR session fails to initialize. Scanning works best in well-lit environments.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Restart the app if the AR session fails to initialize
  • Ensure adequate lighting for best scan quality
  • Hold your phone at arm's length, roughly 12 inches from your face
  • Keep your face centered in the frame during scanning
  • Remove glasses for more accurate scans
  • If export fails, check that you have sufficient storage space
